The best beds for box rooms

Contemporary Structures 5 December, 2024

Box rooms are commonplace in new builds, and are frequently used as storage areas due to their small size and compact feel.

However, if not already, these modest spaces can be put to better use and made into an extra bedroom for guests, newborns or children.

Of course, every bedroom needs a bed – but given their uniquely small dimensions, box rooms require bed frames that meet the size requirements of the space.

This blog explores the best suited bedframe options available for these rooms, including side lift ottoman beds.

The ideal beds for small bedrooms

If you’re looking for the perfect bed to slot seamlessly into the box room in your home, you must consider two things: the size and type of the bed.

Bed size

Unsurprisingly, box rooms can only accommodate the smallest bed frame sizes.

Small single beds are the most logical option, as the room won’t feel as cramped as it would with a standard single.

However, if your box room is large enough and you simply need the extra sleep space, then a single bed should be just fine.

Anything larger would look completely out of proportion, make for a tight squeeze and cause the bedroom feel even smaller!

Bed base type

Given that box rooms feel cramped at the best of times, a storage bed is the most practical option as it removes the need for additional storage.

Side-lift ottoman beds

Convenient and easy to use, side lift ottoman beds are an excellent choice for box rooms. This style of bed base features a hollow base for storage that can be accessed by raising the liftable mattress platform, which is supported using a gas piston hydraulic system.

The ample storage space beneath the mattress can be utilised to store a multitude of belongings from spare duvets and winter coats to small toys and teddy bears.

Reputable retailers of side lift ottoman beds, like Comfybedss stock these frames in various lift layouts, meaning there’s a base that aligns with your space.

For example, if the bed is pushed against a right-sided wall, you’d need a model that lifts from the left side of the base and vice versa.

Divan bed bases

A great option for box bedrooms, divan bases are another type of storage bed worth considering.

Divan bed bases feature handy built-in storage drawers, which can store items such as spare duvet covers, lightweight clothing, stationary and more.

These pull-out drawers can be installed at the foot of or on either side of the bed – all you need to do is select the configuration that suits the bed’s position.

Ultimately, compact storage beds are the most sensible for your box room. Not only are they small enough to fit, but storage beds remove the need for additional storage such as wardrobes, freeing up even more space.
